eduardo paolozzi

The best sculpture so far that I have seen is the giant robot thing. It is freaking amazing and I want to go see it. I love how everything he creates is GIANT. I mean GIANT!!!! He is awesome, I never had even heard of him until I was browsing through google for random sculptors. He is amazing. I can not even begin to explain how awesome he is. I really love the giant head that is all broken up, but yet put back together.

Cesar Baldeccini

Cesar Baldeccini is a very interesting sculptor.  The bottom picture looks like a person or ghost just melting. It kinda reminds me of like Ghostbusters, with the slimer thing, or the giant marshmallow man. The Giant Thumb has to be one of my favorite pieces by him. It is just so ridiculous and random, and I love it. The top picture I dont really understand, I dont know what it is but it looked pretty damn cool.

Antony Gormley

I really love this piece Building VI outside the Musee des Beaux-Arts in Montreal, Canada. Gormley really seems to bring this figure to life by celebrating his own form. I am happy to introduce Antony because his  work really illustrates an artist putting himself into his sculpture.

Ben Sanchez

Ben Sanchez is a tattoo artist that used to work for Spit Shade with Jay O'leary. Now he works at Sideshow on Emerald. The bottom picture is of my boyfriend's chest piece that took over 40 hours and still has more work to do on it. The reason I am writing about Ben is because I love his art work and how bright of colors he uses. I love it.

Art 108

I actually really enjoyed this class even though I had trouble in the beginning. But this class has helped me break out of my shell of just drawing to actually exploring the different types of sculpture art. I am glad i took this class. I still think I am going to stick to drawing.

Brian Froud

As everyone knows, I love fairies, love them and Brian Froud is my absolute favorite fairy artist. I love the colors and the way he draws them, I will soon have a sleeve of fairies tattooed on my arm and I am going to use his art work. I own 3 of his books and plan on getting the rest of them. I love this man.

Matt Barney

Matt Barney is awesome. The second picture reminds me of Mr. Tumnus from The Chronicles of Narnia, except he is not as cute as Mr. Tumnus. The bottom picture is just odd. ODD. What the hell is that? It looks like a mix of a chicken and vampire type thing...I don't get it. The first picture is really cool actually, it looks like a were-cheetah or something. He is great.

Ann Hamilton

Ann hamilton's work is very interesting, I really do not know how to feel about it. Its like, I like it but then again it kind of freaks me out. The bottom picture is the creepiest I think. Reminds of something that would be in Silent Hill or some horror movie. I do like the mouth pictures, the one with hair in it is disgusting, but awesome at the same time. And the one with the rocks is just weird.
I really liked this body transformation project, it made me think out side of the box and brought me out of my comfort zone.

Compare Contrast of Yinka Shonibare and Tim Hawkinson

Tim Hawkinson and Yinka Shonibare have a few things in common but are very different types of artists. They both concentrate on the human body. But they use the human body n different ways. Tim Hawkinson is inspired by the ideas of the human body, when Yinka Shonibare uses the human body to make a statement about certain issues, like racial, Hierarchy, nature, culture and really loves to use costumes from the French Revolution. Tim Hawkinson uses photography and tv when Yinka does sculpture. They are two very different but very similar artists and I respect both of them dearly.

Museum Research

I went to the Old Pen and took the tour. While going through the tour, there were many exhibits on artifacts from when the Pen was active. Tattoo paraphernalia and weapons. Both of the exhibits were very interesting and informative. I really liked how they categorized them in reference to when they were created and how dangerous they were. I enjoyed the exhibits and my time that I spent there, it was very interesting.

Barbie

Barbie, all the girls wanna be her and all the guys want her. Barbie has been the Ideal image for woman since the 50's. Barbie has everything, a hot boyfriend, a sportscar, dozens of friends. She also has been everything, a doctor, a veterinaran, a gymnist. But what people dont really know is if they really wanted to be barbie they would have to be 6 ft tall, have 37 FF breasts, a waist of 18 in and 4 ft long legs. If  Barbie was real, she would have to walk on all fours, just to be able to get around. That is why I am sculpting barbie as if she was real. Maybe people would get that they really do not wanna be like her

Rebecca Horn

Rebecca Horn's photos are beautiful in themselves, mostly the last one with her just standing there with her wings on her sides...this may sound morbid but it reminds me of something that would be in Silent Hill.  my favorite one is the hoop skirt that is on wheels. I love that she created that to show how woman are still lower in society compared to men and how our bodies are constricted by out clothes. I mean she cant even walk and she also sometimes cant control where the the hoop skirt goes.

Robert Gober

Robert Gober is just plain weird. Odd, but very interesting.  His work makes me thing of people that used to be there. Like spirits. The pieces are very eerie in a way. The top one, the chair with the breasts and the bird's nest is very interesting. Its as if the chair is a mother and the nest is it womb. Its beautiful. The wedding dress picture on here reminds me of a bride that died on her wedding night and is just standing there waiting for her fiance to find her. Its quite sad. Robert Gobers work is amazing and I absolutely love it. He is now one of my favorite artists. I do hope I get to see more of his work.

Nick Cave

I love these costumes. They are like life size muppets. But scarier. I love how the art is not the costume but the picture of the costume in motion. My favorite one is the first one I put on here. Its like something that would be a fairy tale monster. Maybe some kind of fairy or woodland creature that sneaks up behind you and kidnaps you without you even knowing what is happening.
I also love the last picture, it looks lke something that would be from a Dr. Suess book, like the Lorax. But a demented version of the Lorax. It is also oddly beautiful. yet scary

Very First Painting

I have never painted before. Ever..well except the paint by numbers and such when i was a kid. But now I have decided to teach myself how to paint and I am using acrylic paint on a medium sized canvas. I have a thing for super mario so I drew a giant Goomba about to smash mario, and mario is running away, and in the background is the typical mario background.  I am hoping that this painting turns out because this would be a very cool painting. I am a total nerd.

Art Museum on 10/25

I invited my friend to go to the BAM with me last Monday, because he had never been to it, and I had to go because I have to do a 4 page paper on two of the artists. When we got there we went straight to the triennial and there were a lot of great artists in there. My favorite is by Pamela deTuncq and it is called 40 days and 40 nights. It is all crosses made out of random objects, like pill holders, toy snakes, and aspirin. Just to name a few. There is a room in the BAM that I absolutely, it feels like a room of just modern art and I love it. There is a table in the middle of that room and it has a crocheted blanket type thing with crocheted skulls all around it. Its awesome. All in all, the art museum was fun.

Suse Ellen Lowenstein

Suse Ellen Lowenstein created these sculptures for remembering the terrorist attacks in Scotland in 1988. Her son was killed when he was coming home for the holidays and he was only 21 years old. 270 people lost their lives on that day. According to the website, this work is considered the most important work to date.
What I love about this work is that she captured the pain and agony of the people that are made of sculptures.  It is such a sad story and I absolutely love this work. Its beautiful and sad and wonderful.

Barry McGee

Graffiti art is one of my favorite types of art. I dated a guy a couple years ago that was a graffiti artist and he was amazing. Barry McGee reminds me of him. A lot. I love the cartoonyness of the art, and the bright colors. Its just amazing and I wish I was able to do it.
My favorite picture that I posted on here is the bike tire painting. I love the colors and the negative space. It beautiful. We need more famous graffiti artist in this town. I also love the one with the men and their terrible terrible tattoos and their hairy hairy bellies.

Mark Ryden

I was told to check out Mark Ryden, because I would like him That is correct. He is great. So dark, yet cute. I love that one of him galleries has Abe Lincoln in pretty much all of the paintings. It is so random. I love everything about the colors he uses, down to the style. i dont even know what style it is, but I love it.
Some of the paintings look like they should be in a screwed up childrens books from the 70's. Its absolutely great.
My favorite one, from the paintings I put on here, is the one of the bear thing? Its like deceiving,, like a gremlin, it will be cute one minute and then the next, if you feed it after midnight, it will start trying to kill you.  lol

Marchel Duchamp

The Father of Conceptual Art. This man is great. I love how he chose a urinal to be his first conceptual piece. I wonder what went through his head. "If I turn this urinal on its back and write a fake signature..its art right?" Ha ha, yeah I know, I am not that funny. My favorite one is the Mona Lisa, and how all he really did was degrade her by drawing a mustache and beard on her. He kinda made her look like Shakespeare. The wheel on the stool, I dont really understand it at all. Its weird. Kinda boring to me. But who am I to judge.

Jeanine Antoni

This lady is just straight up weird. WEIRD. But she is very talented and I respect her deeply. She has a meaning for each one of her pieces and I love that about her. My favorite piece is her giant rope, made of materials that belong to her loved ones. Her friends and family members donated articles of clothing and other stuff and she made it into a big rope and connected all of her pieces in one show together, using that rope. Its great.
I also love that she teaches herself or is taught things she doesnt know how to do so that she can use them in her pieces. like when she taught herself how to tightrope and then went to her homeland and video taped herself "walking on the horizon" which was actually very very cool.
